2-Factor Authentication

Hexonet offers the option to protect your account with 2-Factor Authentication, sometimes called 2FA or OTP.

What this means is that the account owner has an app on their phone that generates a unique code every 30 seconds and this code must be provided when logging in. This ensures that someone else cannot steal your password or attempt to guess your password to gain access to your account.

In order to enable 2FA for your account, Go to the "Security" section of your account settings and click on "2-Factor Authentication".

You can then follow the prompts to set up this feature on your account. Please pay special attention to step 4 as this can save trouble in the future if your mobile device is ever lost, stolen, or broken.

In order to disable 2FA on your account, there are two options.

Still have access to your code generation app:

You can remove 2FA from your account by going to the "Security" section of your account settings and entering a valid 2FA code to submit a removal of the security feature.

Lost Device

Removing 2FA from an account when you cannot generate the correct code requires contacting Customer Care .

In step 4 of our 2FA setup process, we state "Save and store a copy of the QR code or the associated text code in Step 2 above".

If you did keep a copy of this code (often called the 'secret') somewhere secure, like a filing cabinet, or perhaps a password manager, it would allow you to create a valid 2FA code with a different device.
